Matt Jasper Confronts the Chaos of Modern Romance with Wry Heart on New LP Singles For Singles
Out June 27, 2025 via For The Records
SEATTLE, WA — Songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and self-produced artist Matt Jasper releases his latest full-length album, Singles For Singles, on June 27, 2025 through For The Records. Across eleven tracks that explore the confusion, humor, heartbreak, and occasional hope of 21st-century dating, Jasper offers a melodic meditation on what it means to seek connection in a disconnected age.
Rooted in the traditions of indie rock and singer-songwriter storytelling, Singles For Singles draws on a deep well of influences, from the sharp wit of Father John Misty to the melodic charm of Ben Folds, Big Star, and Fountains of Wayne. With hooks steeped in classic pop rock, flourishes of 60s soul, and even moments of indie dance and new romantic shimmer, Jasper turns tales of ghosting, swiping, second chances, and emotional fallout into fully-formed, often danceable, songcraft.
The album opens with the razor-sharp first single “What Is Your Status?” (out June 6), a bureaucratic breakdown of dating app filters and social expectations. Other standout singles include “By Starlight” (out June 13), a cosmic indie rock ballad about disconnection and digital escapism; “Grow Old Together” (out June 20), a bittersweet dancefloor anthem; and the focus track “Let It Spark” (out June 27), a charming, narrative-driven love song about a pizza-date spark and the hopeful chaos that follows. From the sardonic anthem “Don’t Take This Personally” to the empathetic closer “Emily Is New Here,” Jasper navigates emotional nuance with clarity and care.
“This record was born out of conversations—bad dates, good dates, near misses, and missed signals,” says Jasper. “I wanted to write songs that didn’t pretend to have answers, but still made space for sincerity, joy, and catharsis. I think a lot of people are tired of being ironic about love. I certainly was. These songs are about what it actually feels like to try again.”
Written, performed, produced, mixed, and mastered entirely by Jasper—who plays guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, trombone, and banjo throughout—Singles For Singles is a self-contained, self-aware, and deeply resonant portrait of dating and longing in the modern age.
